Bad hair day – or worse!
Psalm 38: 3-7
Because of your wrath there is no health in my body;
there is no soundness in my bones because of my sin.
My guilt has overwhelmed me
like a burden too heavy to bear.
My wounds fester and are loathsome
because of my sinful folly.
I am bowed down and brought very low;
all day long I go about mourning.
My back is filled with searing pain;
there is no health in my body.
Peace, peace, to those far and near, says the Lord. And I will heal them.
But the wicked are like the tossing sea, which cannot rest,
whose waves cast up mire and mud.
There is no peace, says my God, for the wicked.
If you’re having a bad day…
If we’re casual, careless or – or worse contentious – about bringing sin to the Cross of Jesus, there will be effects on our spirit, soul and body. We will feel the heaviness of oppression, as the psalmist says, with a range of other physical symptoms listed for good measure!
Having, or not having, peace of mind is also right here as an issue. So if you’re having difficulty with your thought life, which may be confusion, evidence of lies getting in or just feeling bad about yourself, ‘put on the helmet of salvation’ with this action. Wittingly or unwittingly, you have allowed the enemy some legal rights to come in and give you a hard time.
Praise God that He is in charge and covenanted to you because of Jesus! Then ask Him if there is something in your life He wants to show you and help you to put right with Him.
It sounds a bit simplistic, and securing healing is often more involved, more of a battle – but it starts here. It’s surprising how often someone who comes for prayer ministry and discovers, for example, there’s someone they really need to forgive – a very common sin issue – finds that they sleep better. And that’s the start of a lot of things in their life being released to come right.
What are you carrying, worrying, painkilling or battling? Ask God to show you a sin issue, take responsibility for it and put it right! And if necessary, do the same tomorrow and the next day – this is how it is. Often it’s helpful to do this with someone else who you trust – it’s easier to get clarity and there’s power in the agreement of praying together. It may not necessarily be the whole remedy – but it’s certain to be part of it.
